MacConkey Broth
MacConkey Broth – Full Product Description
MacConkey Broth is a high-quality selective liquid culture medium widely used for the detection and enumeration of coliform bacteria, particularly Escherichia coli. It is commonly applied in water testing, food and dairy analysis, and clinical microbiology laboratories.
This broth contains bile salts and crystal violet, which inhibit the growth of gram-positive organisms, allowing selective growth of gram-negative enteric bacteria. The presence of lactose enables differentiation based on lactose fermentation. Fermentation of lactose results in acid and gas production, providing a clear indication of coliform presence.
MacConkey Broth is especially suitable for use in MPN (Most Probable Number) tests, making it an essential medium for routine quality control and microbiological analysis.
