• Measurements Displayed: The primary readings are blood oxygen saturation level (SpO₂), expressed as a percentage (normal for a healthy person is 95%–100%), and pulse rate (PR) in beats per minute (BPM). Some advanced models may also show a pulse bar graph or plethysmograph, and a perfusion index (PI).

• Technology: The device works by shining two wavelengths of light (red and infrared) through the tissue and measuring how much is absorbed by the oxygenated and deoxygenated hemoglobin in the blood.
• Display: Readings are shown on a built-in screen, often an LED or high-definition OLED display, which can be large, backlit, and sometimes rotatable for easy viewing in various lighting conditions.
• Portability: Most are compact, lightweight, battery-operated (usually AAA), and come with a lanyard or carrying case, making them highly portable for use at home or during outdoor activities.
• Ease of Use: They are designed for simple operation, often with a single button or buttonless activation, and an automatic shut-off feature to conserve battery life.
• Intended Use: Devices are available for both clinical/medical use (regulated medical devices) and for “sports and aviation use only” (consumer-grade, not intended for medical diagnosis).
